Sudan’s agriculture and irrigation minister, Ismat Guraishi, said at an October 8 briefing in Omdurman that feed imports had been allowed. Sudan News Agency reported that he described the approach as intended to protect food availability and the balance between production and prices.
Guraishi also said the previous agricultural season produced about 5.8 million tonnes of crops. His statement that safe areas had no food shortage is an attributed assessment, not an independently verified measure covering every part of the country. The briefing also addressed the summer-season outlook, farm finance and preparations for winter planting.
