An order published on 17 October creates a committee under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Its members will include representatives of the science and finance ministries, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, the National Geographic Institute and the astronomy institutes of the Canary Islands and Andalusia. The committee will approve specific activity plans and certify whether spending fits the programme’s goals. The order took effect on October 18.
The support programme runs from 1 February 2026 to 31 January 2029. The Spanish eclipse series comprises two total solar eclipses and one annular eclipse with broad visibility from different parts of Spain. The committee is to operate without increasing public spending. Decisions are made by majority vote, while certification of eligible costs requires the finance ministry representative’s support.
