UAE agri-food company Silal signed a memorandum of understanding with Ayla Berries to expand blueberry production in the country. Under the plan reported by Emirates News Agency on 12 October, the programme targets 50 hectares and will initially focus on the MegaEarly and MegaCrisp varieties.
The companies plan to develop the area over three years at a density of 6,000 plants per hectare, begin planting in 2027 and reach a first commercial harvest in the 2028 season. Silal said the varieties were selected for protected cultivation in warm climates. These are company targets; the announcement does not report production already achieved.
