Atomic disorder and glass-like magnetism found in NiRuMnGa alloy

An experimental and theoretical study found Ni/Ru and Mn/Ga site mixing in the quaternary Heusler alloy NiRuMnGa and magnetic irreversibility near 48 K. The authors report ac susceptibility, magnetic relaxation and memory measurements as evidence supporting a cluster-glass state.

The team synthesized the alloy by arc melting under argon and combined powder X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement with first-principles calculations. The diffraction pattern was consistent with B2-type disorder on the Ni/Ru and Mn/Ga sublattices. Laboratory X-ray data could not reliably quantify the individual site occupancies.

Zero-field-cooled and field-cooled dc susceptibility began to separate near 48 K, and the irreversibility temperature fell as the applied field increased. Ac susceptibility, relaxation and memory measurements supported slow spin dynamics, while no clear heat-capacity anomaly appeared. The authors interpret this as a cluster-glass state; the study does not demonstrate device or application performance.

Measurements reported by the study

The table reports only findings within this study’s experimental or model scope.

Additional experimental probes of slow spin dynamics3Ac susceptibility, magnetic relaxation and memory-effect measurements were used to support the cluster-glass interpretation; laboratory X-ray diffraction did not resolve site occupancies quantitatively.
Methodology

Quantity and scope are taken from the methods and results of the first arXiv version dated 9 October 2026; they should not be generalized beyond the study.

Electrically switchable p-wave magnetism reported in BiFeO₃ at room temperature

Researchers report that BiFeO₃’s cycloidal spin structure produces p-wave spin polarization at room temperature and that the circular photogalvanic current can be reversed by electric-field pulses. The work combines theory, magnetic imaging and optical-current measurements.

Neutron study aligns magnetic orientations in an altermagnetic MnTe crystal

Researchers led by Forschungszentrum Jülich used neutron diffraction to study an α-MnTe single crystal. An in-plane magnetic field largely aligned its orientational domains near two tesla, although the team said the observation did not establish a fully single-domain structure.

Study links changing signals from Centaurus X-3 to an accretion stream

India’s science ministry said changing emission lines from the X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 can be explained by a stream of material flowing toward its neutron star. Kinjal Roy’s team at the Raman Research Institute examined four secondary emission lines already known to vary in earlier observations.
