Niger’s government said on 9 October that it had established a technical committee on petroleum supply. Prime Minister Mahaman Ali Lamine Zeine chaired the committee’s installation meeting on 12 October; details published by the Nigerien Press Agency on 13 October assign it duties to maintain fuel availability, strengthen output at the SORAZ refinery and work to clear cross-debts within three months.

The committee was assigned to coordinate with China National Petroleum Corporation Niger Petroleum on raising SORAZ’s crude-processing rate from 15,000 to 20,000 barrels a day. The report also lists daily stock and delivery monitoring, a 30-day supply plan revised weekly, and consideration of new depots to raise security reserves to 45 days. These are planning targets and duties assigned to the committee; the report does not say they have been achieved.
