According to the 2026 Module on Cultural Events (MODECULT), released by INEGI on October 12, 65 out of every 100 people in Mexico aged 12 and over attended at least one cultural event in the previous 12 months. Among people aged 12–24, the figure was close to eight in ten.
INEGI reported attendance of 58.6% among speakers of an Indigenous language and 65.5% among non-speakers. From 2025, the survey expanded from people aged 18 and over in large urban areas to a nationally representative population aged 12 and over, and it covers a broader set of events. The new result should therefore not be read as a direct trend comparison with years under the earlier scope.
Data
Cultural-event attendance in the previous 12 months
MODECULT 2026 results for Mexico’s population aged 12 and over.
| All people aged 12 and over | 65 |
| Indigenous-language speakers aged 12 and over | 58.6 |
| Non-speakers of an Indigenous language aged 12 and over | 65.5 |
Methodology
Rates are the shares of each population that attended a cultural event in the previous 12 months. The overall rate covers the national population aged 12 and over; the language comparison distinguishes speakers and non-speakers of an Indigenous language. INEGI expanded the age, geographic and event scope in 2025, so direct trend comparisons with years under the earlier scope are not appropriate.
