The agreement was made between Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation and the federation and supports the Red River Métis Housing Strategy. The provincial government will provide C$9 million and the federation an equal amount, bringing the total to C$18 million.

The government says the funding will support projects to expand affordable housing options for Métis people and address chronic homelessness. The announcement also says development is expected to create jobs in construction and building maintenance, but it does not identify specific communities or projects.
