Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) signed two separate emergency water programs for displaced people in Yemen on 22 October. The Saudi Press Agency reported agreements for Lahj and Taiz governorates, each made virtually with a different Yemeni partner. Both plans run for 90 days, but their reported daily delivery volumes, distribution arrangements and beneficiaries are distinct and should not be treated as one combined network.

In Lahj, KSrelief signed a joint executive program with the Yemeni Family Care Association. The plan calls for delivering 32,445 litres of water a day for 90 days, establishing 16 distribution points, each with a 2,000-litre tank, and supplying 618 water transport and storage containers. It also includes water-quality testing. The agency said 2,163 people would benefit directly and another 1,050 indirectly.

In Taiz, KSrelief signed by videoconference with the Yamany Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Works. That program specifies 52,500 litres per day for 90 days, 13 distribution points with 2,000-litre tanks, and 1,000 storage containers, each with a 10-litre capacity. The stated beneficiary groups are 3,500 people directly and 700 indirectly. The Taiz announcement does not mention water-quality testing, which is specified in the Lahj plan.

The two announcements therefore describe related humanitarian work with different local implementing partners and project designs. Lahj has three more distribution points, while the Taiz plan reports a higher daily water volume and more containers. Those comparisons do not establish how much water each person receives: the releases do not describe household allocation, number of delivery trips, source locations, or whether the stated daily supply is evenly divided among beneficiaries.

Both projects are described as emergency responses for displaced people, and each uses local partner organizations. The Lahj partner is the Yemeni Family Care Association; the Taiz partner is the Yamany Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Works. The SPA accounts say the programs form part of Saudi relief through KSrelief to support water, sanitation and environmental hygiene in Yemen. They do not provide project budgets, contractor details, implementation start dates, or independent monitoring arrangements.

The stated 90-day duration is a planned period, not a reported completion result. The releases do not say when deliveries began, whether either program had already started when the agreements were signed, or how results will be measured. They also give no information about water quality standards, treatment processes, storage maintenance or the condition of local water systems beyond the equipment and testing items named for Lahj.

Keeping the figures separate matters for interpreting the announcements. Lahj’s daily volume is 32,445 litres and Taiz’s is 52,500 litres; neither is an observed total delivered over the full project period. The beneficiary figures are also planned direct and indirect totals for each governorate. Follow-up reporting would be needed to establish actual deliveries, reach and service continuity after the agreements.
