In its statement to the International Monetary and Financial Committee on October 17, Japan welcomed the establishment of the IMF’s Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Corruption Fund. The Ministry of Finance said Japan plans to contribute US$3.5 million over five years to the newly established fund.

The statement describes the fund as integrating anti-money-laundering and countering-financing-of-terrorism work with governance and anti-corruption efforts. Japan said it expects the fund to help the IMF address illicit finance, including fraud and misuse of crypto-assets, through technical assistance and capacity development. The contribution is a plan, not a report that the full amount has already been paid.
