FuelCell Energy said on 21 October that its FuelCell Energy Block System received a 99.873% rating in PJM Interconnection’s unit-specific Effective Load Carrying Capability assessment for the 2028/29 Reliability Backstop Procurement process. The company said PJM may count nearly all of the evaluated system’s capacity as dependable.

The assessment applies to the particular system evaluated; FuelCell stressed that it is neither a rating for the company’s technology class nor a measure of operating uptime. Future assessments may differ, and any market participation would remain subject to PJM processes and eligibility rules. The company cited PJM’s projection of 32 GW of peak load growth across its region from 2024 to 2030, with about 30 GW expected from data centers.
