UNICEF Ethiopia said in a statement published on 12 October that the share of young women married before age 18 was 40% in 2016 and 32% in 2025. The agency issued the release around the International Day of the Girl.

The government is preparing a second costed national roadmap for 2026–2031 to end child marriage and female genital mutilation. UNICEF says its support includes keeping girls in school, building skills and expanding access to protection services; the new roadmap is still being prepared.
