IllustrationThe satellite carries a 12-metre mesh reflector on a 7.5-metre boom and a P-band synthetic aperture radar. ESA says the radar can measure woody biomass through forest canopies.
Biomass measurements are a proxy for carbon stocks; launch did not itself provide completed global results. The release said commissioning checks were continuing.
