The ONS estimated 974 registered deaths among people experiencing homelessness in England and Wales in 2025, with a 95% confidence interval of 908 to 1,041.

The estimate combines 834 deaths directly identified in records with 140 additional cases modelled as not directly identified. It was close to the 978 estimate for 2024; small annual differences should be treated cautiously.

The count uses registration information indicating rough sleeping or emergency or temporary accommodation around the time of death, and does not match other official homelessness definitions. Figures are by registration year, not necessarily year of death, and remain official statistics in development.
