Initial testing involved Camden, Barnet and Dorset councils. The government reports a 58% reduction in time spent on key planning tasks and says routine householder application processing was reduced from eight weeks to four. Those are reported early-testing results, rather than an independently established performance guarantee for every council.

Twelve additional councils bring the pilot’s total to 15. Officers will use PlanAssist alongside their normal procedures to test it at scale. The government intends to make the tool available across England by the end of 2027, while stating that use of the software will not be mandatory.

MLCommons to develop an NSF-backed agent efficiency benchmark

MLCommons was selected to develop the MLPerf Agents benchmark under a two-year, $3.5 million AI Efficiency Challenge supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation. The planned benchmark will measure complete workflows—not just model token serving—including the agent harness, model choice, retrieval, tool execution, orchestration, state management, failure recovery and validation.

Study proposes stricter tests for novelty claims in AI materials discovery

Researchers at the University of Liverpool and University College London used continuous mathematical invariants to compare crystal structures. Their preprint examines two GNoME dataset releases and argues that duplication checks are essential before claiming new materials.
