Fire and rescue services in England attended 638,454 incidents in the year ending June 2026, up 1.3% from the previous year, according to statistics published on 28 October. Fires fell 4.5% to 158,659, showing that the overall increase did not reflect a rise in every incident category.
The release records 233 fire-related deaths in 220 fatal fires, compared with 291 deaths in 263 fatal fires a year earlier. Services also attended 260,577 fire false alarms and 219,218 non-fire incidents, which include activities such as flood response and assistance to other agencies.
The figures apply to England. Data collection moved to the Fire and Rescue Data Platform in November 2025. Lancashire and Leicestershire records for the latest period are incomplete and provisional; missing Suffolk records in part of the earlier comparison period also understate that area’s incidents. These limitations matter when interpreting changes.
