Canada’s consumer prices rose 3.1% from a year earlier in September, up from 3.0% in August, Statistics Canada reported on October 19. Gasoline prices, up 27.8% year over year, were the main driver of the acceleration.
Annual price growth for food bought in stores slowed to 1.7%. The all-items CPI increased 0.1% from the previous month. These changes use different comparison periods; slower grocery inflation does not mean that grocery prices fell.
