Health Canada reported that it authorized 16 new prescription drugs, 33 generic or biosimilar drugs and 540 new medical devices from July 1 through September 30, 2026. Its quarterly update on October 15 also described pressure on the drug-review process from a growing number of increasingly complex submissions.

The department is prioritizing some generic submissions and advancing changes to clinical-trial rules. A proposed approach for medicines for children and youth would shorten review times from 300 days to as few as 180; the proposal remained under consultation through October 23 and was not a finalized rule.
