The Canadian Food Inspection Agency declared primary control zone 342 in Alberta for highly pathogenic avian influenza on October 13, with the designation order signed the following day. CFIA’s current incident list identifies AB-IP120, detected October 12 in Sturgeon County, as a commercial poultry premises under quarantine.

CFIA says movement restrictions apply within primary control zones. The PCZ-342 order covers commercial and non-commercial poultry, day-old birds, hatching eggs, eggs and poultry products or by-products. It also covers other captive birds when movements could bring them into contact with poultry or poultry facilities. The order sets a containment area and movement controls; it does not say every bird in the zone is infected.
