The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock estimated Brazil’s 2026 Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) at R$1.44 trillion in its September update. This is not the value of production occurring only in September or cash received during that month; it is an annual gross-revenue estimate updated monthly. VBP estimates gross revenue across major crop and livestock activities; it is not profit, net income or value added in the national accounts. The 23 October release breaks the estimate down by crops and livestock, products and regions.

Crops accounted for R$921.7 billion, or 64% of the VBP, while livestock represented R$517.9 billion, or 36%. Soybeans were estimated at R$352.7 billion, about 24.5% of the total indicator. Corn accounted for R$162 billion (11.3%), sugarcane R$112.3 billion (7.8%) and coffee R$106.5 billion (7.4%). These are VBP components, so their shares should not be read as physical output or export shares.Adding the four crop values highlighted in the release—soybeans, corn, sugarcane and coffee—gives R$733.5 billion, about 79.6% of the R$921.7 billion crop subtotal. This calculation uses the rounded published values and leaves the remaining share to other crop activities.

In livestock, beef was the largest individual component at R$253.4 billion, equal to 17.6% of the total. Chicken meat followed at R$110 billion (7.6%). The two items illustrate the scale of animal-production chains in the indicator, but the release does not give them year-on-year growth rates or separate price from quantity for each product.

The Center-West led among regions with R$431.2 billion. Mato Grosso accounted for R$225.2 billion, or 15.6% of the national VBP. The Southeast ranked second at R$367.3 billion; Minas Gerais contributed R$172.4 billion (12% of the total). The South region was estimated at R$315.7 billion. The gap between the national total and the regions listed here reflects that the news release highlights selected regions and states rather than itemizing every component.

Because VBP is released as a monthly estimate of gross revenue across agricultural activities, the figure can reflect both prices and production. It is not equivalent to value added in the national accounts, cash revenue actually received by growers or financial results after costs. The ministry identifies its Agricultural Policy Secretariat as the source of the estimate, but the news text does not detail the underlying price and quantity series for every item.
