Agriculture Minister Edwin Dikoloti announced on 19 October that the export dispensation had been renewed after foot-and-mouth disease disrupted livestock movement and trade. Live exports are restricted to slaughter-ready steers; the live-cattle dispensation lasts six months, while the arrangement for beef and products runs for 12 months.

The minister said about P97 million had been redirected to disease control and 167,238 cattle vaccinated in the extended southern containment zone. A booster campaign at Phitshane Molopo-Mabule was 75% complete against its target. These figures were given at a press briefing; the renewed export arrangements do not mean the disease risk has ended.
