AWS adds native HTTP server support with Lambda Web Functions

AWS introduced Web Functions to run standard Node.js HTTP servers on Lambda without converting applications into event handlers. The first release uses Node.js 24 on Arm64, two vCPUs and 2 GB of memory. A warm execution environment can serve multiple concurrent requests.

The service provides an HTTPS endpoint, native response streaming and VPC connectivity. AWS bills CPU time only while code is active, while memory is metered for as long as the execution environment exists; waiting can still incur memory charges. On announcement day it was available in Northern Virginia, Ohio, Oregon, Tokyo and Ireland; multi-Region routing can direct requests closer to users.

AWS adds Availability Zone metadata to Lambda

AWS announced a metadata endpoint on October 9 that lets Lambda execution environments discover their Availability Zone ID. The information helps functions prefer resources in the same zone, such as ElastiCache nodes or database read replicas. AWS says the feature is available at no additional charge in every commercial Region offering Lambda.
