Altera announced QuartusIQ on 21 October as an AI companion for its Quartus Prime Pro FPGA design software. The company says the assistant uses natural-language prompts and information from an active project, including device, IP, constraints, reports and timing data, to help with design tasks and routine analysis.

Altera said the claim of up to 1.5 times faster design cycles comes from its internal analysis of representative workflows compared with completing the same tasks manually in Quartus Prime without QuartusIQ; the company says results vary. The software, including the assistant, MCP support, a Visual Studio Code extension and Skills, is scheduled for Quartus Prime Pro v26.3, planned for release on 28 October 2026.
