WMO said in its Ozone and UV Bulletin, released on 16 September, that the 2025 Antarctic ozone hole was the fourth or fifth smallest since severe depletion patterns were observed in 1992. Its depth and extent were significantly below the 1990–2010 average for a second consecutive year.

The bulletin cautioned that annual fluctuations continue despite signs of long-term recovery and emphasized protection from UV exposure. It also said active monitoring stations had fallen from about 130 in the early 2000s to 110 today.
