WHO said cholera deaths reported by 47 countries in 2025 reached their highest level since 1999. The release also covered surveillance trends for meningitis and plague.

For 2025, WHO received reports of 451,499 cases and 7,870 deaths; deaths rose 30% from 2024. It cautioned that under-reporting means these figures do not reflect the full global burden.

The same release reported 21,526 suspected meningitis cases and 971 deaths in 24 African meningitis-belt countries, plus 3,847 suspected plague cases and 423 deaths reported in 2019–2025.
