# Uzbekistan says green cover has reached 15 percent of its territory

Uzbekistan's National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change said on 5 October that green cover had reached 15 percent of the country's territory. The committee said millions of seedlings had been planted under the nationwide Yashil Makon project and that monitoring of air, water and soil quality had expanded, alongside upgrades to industrial dust and gas treatment systems.

The release put the share of specially protected natural areas at 14.2 percent. It also restated Uzbekistan's Paris Agreement targets to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions per unit of GDP by 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2035, compared with 2010. The release did not explain how the green-cover share was measured.
