The University of Queensland says it is leading IVCare, a platform clinical trial that will compare ways to prevent infections and other complications linked to central venous access devices. The devices are used in cancer treatment, dialysis and intensive care. The university says they are used by more than 100,000 Australians each year.

The planned trial spans 20 hospitals in Australia and is designed to test several approaches at once, including skin antiseptics, dressings, fasteners, cleaning protocols and different device designs. UQ says the results are intended to inform future clinical guidance. This is a study launch announcement; the release reports no comparative outcomes, and says the trial may later expand internationally.

## Data

### Announced scope of the IVCare trial

Australian trial scope and annual use of central venous access devices as reported in UQ’s October 12, 2026 announcement.
