The UK government said on 3 September it intended to provide a loan of up to £400 million to the Tropical Forests Forever Facility. The announcement is conditional on final governance and operational arrangements, due diligence and other requirements being met.

The government said the loan is not a grant and forest countries would not be asked to repay it; the facility is designed to repay investors and reward countries that protect forests through a performance-based model. Final loan terms and the facility’s size remain unsettled.
