Collision risks involving UK-licensed satellites rose 16% in September compared with August but remained below the 12-month rolling average, the National Space Operations Centre reported on 28 October. Its monthly series records 1,049 collision risks in September against 901 in August.

The centre also monitored 58 objects re-entering Earth’s atmosphere, compared with 54 in August. They comprised 51 satellites, five rocket bodies and two likely debris pieces. The source describes monitored hazards, rather than confirmed collisions or damage on the ground.

One low-Earth-orbit satellite fragmentation incident was recorded, with assessment continuing into the resulting debris. Space-weather activity was lower than in August. The centre said all warning and protection services functioned throughout the month; it is led by the UK Space Agency and UK Space Command in partnership with the Met Office.
