The UK government announced on Oct. 12 that it would expand AI use in cyber defence for public services and prepare for risks from advanced AI. The announcement said two earlier pilot programmes had identified and fixed more than a thousand potential vulnerabilities in government systems and detected potential threats.

Officials also plan to evaluate advanced models, examine ways to report serious AI incidents and near misses, and develop responses to incidents involving autonomous agents in coordination with the NCSC and AI Security Institute. Any legal changes remain under consideration with lawmakers, technical experts and operators; the release describes planned and ongoing work, not an enacted new law.
