# UK sets up taskforce on flood and drought resilience

The UK government said on October 11 that it would establish a Flood and Drought Resilience Taskforce to strengthen preparedness for both risks. Its first meeting is planned for October 14, bringing together Floods and Drought Minister Emma Hardy and representatives from more than 50 organisations, including the Environment Agency, the Met Office, local authorities and the farming, water and insurance sectors.

The government says at least £10.5 billion is committed to flood defences in England between 2024 and 2036, with £1.4 billion being spent on building and repairing defences in 2026/27. These are existing investment figures, not outcomes of the new taskforce. The release also refers to a previously announced £65 million support package for farmers; it does not present that funding as a new decision.
