The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said on 14 September that it would help hundreds of thousands of people prepare for extreme weather expected next year. Support includes measures such as protecting livestock, reinforcing homes and helping farmers before disasters.

The government said the package supports early action against risks of El Niño-related drought, flooding and food shortages. The announcement describes the programme’s aim; it does not report spending completed or beneficiaries reached in specific countries.
