The UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) reported on 16 September 2026 on Army drone-swarm trials. The first phase of its Software Defined Swarms Concept Demonstrator was delivered with Army Headquarters and industry partners; two industry-led options were tested in realistic operational environments.

The Army said it had completed eight weeks of experimentation with a Swarm Capability Test Bed consisting of eight uncrewed aerial vehicles. The trials assessed representative battlefield tasks. The system remains in experimentation and testing and was not described as an operationally fielded capability.
