Fish farms are gradually resuming operations in the al-Ghab area of Hama after more than 14 years of disruption. An official told SANA that the area has 291 private farms and three state-run farms.

The official said Hama’s production had fallen to about 2,000 tonnes, with damaged ponds and the cost of feed and equipment complicating recovery. The report also discusses national production goals and calls for longer-term support; the local farm counts are not national totals.
