Hydraulics and Sanitation Minister Cheikh Tidiane Dieye visited drainage works in Dakar on 17 October with the regional governor and technical officials. In a statement published on 18 October, the ministry said pumping capacity at the basin in the Captage area had increased from 6,000 to 9,000 cubic metres per hour.

The statement said further work is planned on the Front de Terre canal and the system evacuating water from Grand-Yoff, with the aim of reducing inflows to the basin. It linked the work to Senegal’s national integrated flood-risk strategy, but did not report a newly completed drainage project or a measured reduction in flooding.
