Saudi Arabia’s Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program, known as Saudi Reef, handed five development projects in beekeeping and honey production to the Reef National Foundation. The Saudi Press Agency reported on October 19 that the projects are valued at more than SAR48.2 million and are awaiting launch in several regions.

The projects are intended to increase domestic bee-product production, support beekeepers and contribute to food security. The foundation will operate them, with stated aims including support for small producers, stronger value chains, improved product quality and broader marketing opportunities. The report does not say that the projects have begun operating or that production has already increased.
