# Oil and gas shares led Russian market returns in September

> Oil and gas shares returned 9.1% in September as oil prices rose, according to the Bank of Russia’s financial market review published on October 8. Information technology shares returned 5.3%.

Construction shares fell 17.9%, metals and mining shares fell 5.8%, and chemical producers fell 5.6%. Gold declined 8.1% after rising in the previous month.

The Bank’s returns include asset-price changes, stock dividends and bond coupons. For foreign-currency instruments, ruble exchange-rate movements are also included; these are realised period returns, not forecasts.
