USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in Rhode Island invited conservation entities to apply for Forest Health Works funding on October 9, 2026. Applications received by November 27 will be considered in this round; applications are accepted year-round, but later submissions will miss this round.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Forest Environment leads the project. Its target is to permanently protect more than 1,300 acres of private forest, reduce fragmentation and improve wildlife habitat. Applicants must show a long-term conservation commitment, the capacity to acquire, manage and enforce easements, and resources to share estimated transaction costs.
