Renault Group and Belgium-based Dumarey Group have agreed a process for the acquisition of Alpine Racing SAS, the legal entity operating Renault’s motorsport activities at Viry-Châtillon, south of Paris. The companies announced the agreement on 22 October. It covers the entity, its teams and the tangible and intangible assets needed to operate the site. The proposed transfer includes all employees.

The companies present the transaction as a way to maintain operations and retain specialist expertise at the Île-de-France site. The proposed deal has not yet closed: Alpine Racing SAS employee representatives were briefed at an extraordinary works council meeting on 22 October, and a legally required consultation process is under way. Completion is conditional on that process and the receipt of applicable regulatory approvals.

Viry-Châtillon’s work has centred on motorsport engineering. Renault says the site brings more than four decades of Formula 1 development experience, alongside capabilities in hybrid and electric propulsion, simulation, software and testing. Those capabilities and the technical facilities are part of the rationale for preserving the site’s engineering activities as ownership changes.

Dumarey describes itself as a specialist in powertrain technology, engines, energy storage systems and automotive engineering. The company says it wants to expand into motorsport and add high-performance powertrain development, electrification and advanced testing to its engineering activities. It frames the acquisition as diversification, with motorsport expertise complementing its existing industrial and automotive work.

The stated plan is for Alpine Racing SAS to operate under Dumarey’s ownership and management after completion. Renault says the teams could use their Formula 1 engine expertise to support other racing teams in the future. This concerns Alpine Racing SAS in France; it does not include Alpine Racing Limited, the separate UK entity associated with the BWT Alpine Formula One Team’s Formula 1 operations.

The companies describe continuity and employment preservation as aims of the project, and Renault says it will support the transition while respecting social dialogue. Those are commitments about the proposed transaction, not evidence that the transfer has already taken place. The next formal steps are the employee consultation and regulatory review; the announcement gives no completion date or financial terms.

For the local site, the proposal shifts the ownership of a specialised engineering operation while keeping its technical teams and facilities within the intended operating perimeter. Whether the site’s existing work continues at the same scale, or gains new external customers, will depend on the final transaction and Dumarey’s plans after any transfer. The release sets out the strategic rationale but does not specify a future programme portfolio.
