# Qatar approves draft rules on radioactive materials from oil and gas

Qatar’s Cabinet approved on 7 October a draft Environment and Climate Change Ministry decision on managing naturally occurring radioactive materials generated by the oil and gas industry. Qatar News Agency’s account of the weekly Cabinet meeting said the draft was prepared in cooperation with QatarEnergy.

Prepared with QatarEnergy, the draft follows International Atomic Energy Agency safety standards. It sets requirements and responsibilities for handling, storage, transport and disposal to protect workers, the public and the environment from radiation risks.
