The company said it created Forward-Deployed AI Engineer roles to identify use cases and design workflows, with the initial rollout focused on customer service and AI-assisted handling of orders and quotes. Protolabs said the phased rollout across its workforce of more than 2,200 employees will continue into 2027. It also described future AI work for quality and manufacturing partner operations, including earlier identification of manufacturing issues.
