# Pinecone adds on-demand capacity mode to its BYOC vector database

Pinecone made on-demand capacity mode available for Bring Your Own Cloud on 15 October. Instead of choosing capacity for each vector index in advance, customers can share a pool across multiple indexes and namespaces in the same cloud cluster. The company says capacity can be added as data grows and dynamic sharding can add shards without moving existing data.

Pinecone BYOC keeps data in the customer’s AWS, Google Cloud or Azure account; the company says it does not need SSH, VPN or inbound network access to operate the cluster. Operational metrics are sent for monitoring. Pinecone says the new mode is available to all BYOC customers; it did not publish pricing or an independent performance evaluation.
