On 2 October 2026 Lori Idlout, Member of Parliament for Nunavut, announced on behalf of Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson an investment of over C$77 million in a new multi-use small craft harbour at Arctic Bay, Nunavut. Public Services and Procurement Canada has awarded the construction contract to Pilitak Enterprises Ltd. of Iqaluit, Nunavut. The contract includes an Inuit benefits plan to support local training and employment.

The harbour will include a breakwater, a launch ramp, a fixed wharf for larger vessels and float wharves for small craft, along with dredging of the harbour basin and the entrance channel. Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and continue until 2029, and the harbour is anticipated to be operational by the open-water season of 2030.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada said the harbour will support commercial fishing in the region and access to economic opportunities, cultural activities, marine transportation and tourism, and that the investment is a key commitment tied to establishing the Tallurutiup Imanga National Marine Conservation Area and the Tuvaijuittuq Marine Protected Area. The release did not state the value of the construction contract and pointed to the CanadaBuys award notice.

## Data

### Harbour investment figure

Investment amount stated in the Fisheries and Oceans Canada release of 2 October 2026.

Methodology: The C$77 million is the investment the release announces for the Arctic Bay small craft harbour, described as over that amount; it is not the value of the construction contract awarded to Pilitak Enterprises Ltd., which the release does not state. The release writes it with a dollar sign and no currency code; it is recorded as Canadian dollars because the issuer is the Government of Canada.
