The government of Piauí says modernization work is under way at Theatro 4 de Setembro, a heritage-listed venue in Teresina. The state’s October 11 progress report identifies electrical-network interventions as work already started; modernization of the air-conditioning system is among the next stages. The report does not give the day work began.

Plans also include accessibility measures, a panoramic lift, a café and a rooftop area. The theatre is to remain closed while the interventions proceed, with cultural programming continuing at Cine Teatro Torquato Neto and Clube dos Diários. The state says the project is intended to update the venue while preserving its historic and architectural features; the planned additions are not reported as completed.
