# Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index slows to 20.9 in October

The Philadelphia Fed’s October Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey put the Third District’s general activity index at 20.9, down from 37.8 in September. The new orders index fell to 4.3 and shipments to 15.3.

Responses were collected October 5–12. Diffusion indexes are the share reporting increases minus the share reporting decreases; these readings are neither output growth rates nor national estimates.
