# ORNL water-soluble tooling for Type V gas tanks wins ACE award

The method uses large-format 3D printing to make a temporary water-soluble polymer mandrel. After carbon-fibre winding and curing, water removes the mandrel and a gas-barrier coating is applied. This leaves no permanent liner inside the tank.
