# Norway’s truck operating-cost index rises in Q3 under a new base

> Statistics Norway’s new-base cost index for road freight and van transport stood at 101.9 in the third quarter of 2026 for the aggregate excluding tolls and ferry costs, 2.8% above the second quarter and 5.9% above a year earlier. The reference period is now Q1 2026 = 100, with new weights introduced from Q2.

Including toll and ferry costs, the aggregate index was 101.8, up 2.6% quarter on quarter and 6.4% year on year. The index tracks operators’ cost inputs; it is not the price charged for freight services. SSB excludes vans and vehicle recovery from the headline truck aggregates.
