Matthew Adepoju, director-general of Nigeria’s National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), called for stronger African participation in global Earth observation during a meeting with Group on Earth Observations (GEO) representatives in Abuja, described in an October 9 release. NASRDA said he urged Nigerian institutions to work more closely through GEO and AfriGEO.

The agency described space technology as a practical tool for work on climate change, agriculture, water resources, environmental monitoring and food security. NASRDA said it was ready to deepen cooperation with GEO and AfriGEO; the release did not announce a new agreement, programme budget or measured outcome.
