At a World Sight Day event in Umuahia on 15 October, the administrator of the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau reported the state’s eye-care programme figures. She said 25 centres had been established across the state’s 17 local government areas.

The programme’s reported totals covered just over two years. At the event, state officials linked eye health with road safety and urged drivers to use screening services. The report does not give a separate count of people screened specifically on the event day.
