The government says the project aims to improve the region’s water resilience. Funding will cover approvals, road access, a water-level control weir and design for future water storage infrastructure. The first stage, led on behalf of the Lake Ōmāpere Trust, is expected to cost around NZ$5.9 million; this is an estimate rather than the cost of completed work. ## Data ### New Zealand backs Lake Ōmāpere restoration with NZ$3 million grant Methodology: The announced grant and approximate expected first-stage cost are separate measures in million NZD.
