On Oct. 9, NASA released its final Request for Proposals as it plans to continue low-Earth-orbit activity after the International Space Station retires. The agency is seeking plans for commercial stations that could provide destinations and transportation services for human spaceflight.

The solicitation asks companies to design, build, test, certify and operate orbital destinations. NASA intends to select two or more contractors for early development, then use a competitive task order for final design, testing, certification and services. Proposals are due Dec. 8, with awards expected in spring 2027; no winner had been selected in the announcement.
